Registered offenses in Pest County amount to 19000 as of last year. Not surprisingly, second place goes to Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén with nearly 13000 cases, while western counties saw the fewest number of criminal incidents.
Pest County’s first place is mostly due to the fact that 12,5% (1 226 115) of the population resides here. Most common cases are drink-driving, drug-related offenses, and theft. However, a decrease of 47% in the course of the last 7 years could be observed.
Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén has been near the top of the list for a long time, even though a reduction of 51% has been observed since 2010. Drink driving, counterfeiting and fraud are the top-listed felonies, and juvenile delinquency is one of the biggest issues in this eastern county. In addition, there were about 5000 cases involving the misuse of firearms. What is surprising is the high number of elderly people registered as offenders in this county: 301 cases were registered, mostly for theft, drink-driving and counterfeiting.
Western, border regions were the most peaceful. Police are not overwhelmed with crime in Veszprém, Vas, or Zala counties. In Komárom-Esztergom, for example, only 3000 offenses were registered.
