The nearly 20-meter tall silver fir, which will stand in front of the Parliament on Kossuth Square until 6th January, arrived this morning to Budapest. This year’s ‘national Christmas tree’ was offered by a pensioner couple from Tököl.
The tree was cut out this morning and experts from the disaster prevention office, the army and police helped to set it up on the square. This year’s Christmas tree is an almost 20-meter-tall silver fir with 63cm diameter trunk.
On Monday, similarly to previous years, the tree will be decorated with a 2400 meter long Christmas light with 33600 coloured light bulbs.
According to Origo, Christmas lights on the Kossuth Square will be switched on on the first Sunday of Advent (3 December). The tree will be surrounded by a fence, made out of 120 sleighs, and the decorations will include a nativity scene as well.
The Christmas tree will stand front of the Parliament until 6th January 2018, when the tree will be donated to people in need of firewood.
