Chariman Of Hungarian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Visited Baltic States

The chairman of the Hungarian parliament’s foreign affairs committee underlined Hungary’s commitment to security in Latvia and the Baltic states during a two-day official visit to Riga.

Zsolt Németh noted that Hungary and the Baltic states have been cooperating in defence for years, both within and beyond NATO. Hungary has undertaken to police Baltic airspace using Hungarian Gripen aircraft in 2019, as it has done in previous years, Németh said. Latvia is also interested in establishing stronger ties with the Visegrad Group, Németh said. Hungary, which will take up the rotating presidency of the group in July, is ready to boost cooperation with the Baltics in areas such as energy policy, infrastructure and digital cooperation, he said.

Diplomatic ties strengthened through visits by the Hungarian prime minister and foreign minister to Latvia, and the Latvian house speaker’s impending visit to Hungary, he said.
