Breaking: Police Enter National Conservatism Conference in Brussels

Belgian police have entered the conference hall where the annual National Conference is currently taking place.

The officers have served a notice demanding that organizers shut down the event for disturbing the peace.

Just as British politician Nigel Farage finished his speech and former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman took the stage, three officers entered the premises.

The conference had to change venues twice due to threats from anarchist groups and the mayor of Brussels, but according to a well informed person from the organizing team, the pressure comes from much higher up.

Kinga Gál, MEP for Fidesz, told Hungary Today that these methods remind her of the communist regime in the 80s. The left are desperate and trying to silence their opponents, said the Hungarian MEP. In her view, the left in Brussels is panicking over the challenge that conservatives pose with their narrative on democracy. They use European institutions to silence dissent. They speak about freedom of press and speech, but they are unable to hear, let alone accept any views coming from outside their ideological bubble, Gál argued.

The event is scheduled to host Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán tomorrow, but uncertainties remain as to the continuation of the conference due to authorities’ unprecedented interference.

Currently, the police are only outside the building, but the notice they left behind from the mayor ordered the venue to shut down the conference. The reason given was that speakers may have used “racist” or “homophobic language,” but an Antifa extremist protest is also planned to take place outside the building.

Nigel Farage informed the audience from the stage that the venue’s Tunisian owner had kindly given the space for the conference, despite threats made against him and his family members. Some of the conference speakers have thanked the owner for standing up for the freedom of speech.

Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán reacted to the disconcerting news in a social media post, saying: “Brussels has stepped up a level. If someone stands up for peace, one is simply cancelled. No choice, on June 9th we will have to make our voices heard and say, we do not want to take part in the war!”

Police officers blocking the entrance to the venue denied access to guests and speakers who arrived in the afternoon. Former French presidential election candidate Eric Zemmour was therefore unable to enter the building to deliver his keynote speech at 4pm.

Hungary Today is reporting live from the scene, we will update our story soon.
